SCHOOL CLOSURE TO IN PERSON LEARNING FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR 4.22.20
As you may have heard, yesterday evening, Governor Polis announced that schools in Colorado would not re-open to in person instruction the remainder of this school year. While he mentioned this in his press conference, there were no details given yesterday. This morning I was able to participate on a conference call with the governor and was able to hear more from him, regarding this decision.
While the governor indicated there will be a gradual relaxation of some of the restrictions for businesses, in order to bring children back into a school environment, where social distancing would still be required, would create huge challenges and he and his advisors believe it would not make sense to try to do this. Thus, his decision to not return to in-person learning the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
That being said, I want to emphasize that we WILL continue to provide distance learning and expect all students to engage in this process, through the normal end of the school year, on Friday, May 29th. High school seniors who have completed their graduation requirements are finished on May 22nd.
DENVER – Colorado public school 12th graders would be able to take the SAT test on a school day next fall for no cost under an agreement the Colorado Department of Education is pursuing with the College Board, the organization that administers the test.
This spring’s administration of the SAT along with the rest of the state’s assessment requirements for the 2019-20 school year were suspended by Gov. Jared Polis’ executive order due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Given the SAT plays an important role in the lives of Colorado’s high school students as a means of demonstrating readiness for graduation and postsecondary experiences, as well as providing scholarship opportunities, a commitment was made to investigate alternative testing options.

The upcoming Friday and Monday (April 10 and April 13) will not have remote school. Friday is a scheduled “day off” and Monday is a scheduled professional development day for teachers.
On both Friday and Monday we are committed to providing meals to any children ages 0-18. Meals will be delivered using our established system. Buses will deliver to routes, according to our published plan. For more information on delivery stops, please leave a message at 970-264-0392, extension 0. A representative from the Transportation Department will return your call with accurate information. In addition, the high school cafeteria pick up location will be open from 10 am to 1 pm.

I truly hope that you and your families are coping during these challenging times. While we don’t want to overload you with information while you are trying to work, care for your families and also help your children with their school work, we do want to make sure you have clear and current information from us here in the district and schools. To that end, this correspondence to you.

ASD INITIATES FOOD DISTRIBUTION PLAN FOR THIS WEEKS SCHOOL CLOSURE. 3.16.2020
Starting Tuesday, March 17th, and running through Friday March 20th, Archuleta Schools’ Food Service Department will prepare breakfast and lunch meals for children 18 years and younger. Meals will be available for pick up from 8 am -1 pm at each school. In addition, meals will be delivered by the transportation department to the regularly scheduled bus stops during the morning routes. Students or their parent/ guardians may pick up the meals at the time their children would normally be picked up by the bus.

School offices and the district administration office will be open during regular hours, from 8:00 – 4:00, this week (3/16- 3/20). During Spring Break (3/23 – 3/27), the school offices will close, but the district administrative office will be open during regular hours of operation.

IMPORTANT LETTER FROM SUPERINTENDENT REED REGARDING SCHOOL CLOSURES AND DISTANCE LEARNING EFFECTIVE TUESDAY MARCH 17 - FRIDAY MARCH 20. 3.15.2020
We have been closely monitoring developments around COVID - 19 and have been collaborating with San Juan Basin Health Department, the organization that is responsible for making determinations, in collaboration with our school board and myself about when closures should occur. We have also been keeping in close communication with area health care providers and have resources for parents posted on our website. Because of the extreme volatility of the current situation and because we want to protect our children and our greater community from this pandemic, we have made the decision, in conjunction with San Juan Basin Health District, to begin distance learning for our students on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. We plan to be in session tomorrow, Monday, March 16th, operating on our regular schedule. The week of March 23rd – is our normal Spring Break and schools will be closed. We will notify parents at the end of spring break, what next steps will be, based on the assets and needs of the community and directives from state agencies. Archuleta School District has been coordinating with San Juan Basin Public Health as we monitor the global pandemic of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
At this time of year, there are many causes of respiratory illnesses, including the common cold and influenza. Symptoms of coronavirus infection include fever, cough and/or shortness of breath, and fatigue.
Parents and staff can help by continuing to implement the same critical practices – themselves and with their children – as would be followed during flu season.
